Media4Climate Advocacy Initiative - Cohort 2
Tanzania is increasingly affected by climate change, including rising temperatures, shifting rainfall patterns, flooding, droughts, and coastal degradation. While these impacts are evident, access to clear, reliable, and locally relevant climate information remains limited. This gap restricts public understanding, reduces meaningful participation in decision-making, and weakens community-level climate action.
This project addresses these challenges by strengthening the capacity of youth media practitioners to effectively communicate climate issues. Through the principles of Action for Climate Empowerment (ACE), the initiative focuses on climate education, public awareness, access to information, training, and community engagement.
Key Activities
- Capacity Building Program:
A 4-month hybrid training (online and in-person) for 60 young journalists, covering climate science, national policies, UNFCCC processes, and climate diplomacy. - Media Policy Tour:
A 2-month experiential program where participants engage with policymakers, community initiatives, and climate institutions to strengthen practical reporting skills. - COP Simulation:
A COP-style climate negotiation simulation planned for 2026, enabling participants to understand negotiation dynamics and the role of media in shaping climate discourse.
Expected Impact
By equipping a new generation of journalists with specialized climate communication skills, the project aims to improve the quality and accuracy of climate reporting in Tanzania. This will enhance public awareness, amplify community voices, counter misinformation, and support broader societal participation in climate action and policy processes.
